Would a Man Shooting & Missing the President be a 'Non-event'?

I'm sorry, but as an American, want to know if some shmuck tried to get on a plane with a fake bomb. Even more, I want to know if he got on the plane with a bomb sans explosives.

Why do certain events get less press (or even FBI attention) than others? And don't tell me this was a "non-event."
